UPCOMING LIVE
I’ll be on Stig Drydal’s channel today at 2pm EST discussing the craft book “Writing In The Dark” by Tim Waggoner. I love this horror writing craft book so much. Come hear me gush about it and see if there are any lessons you can take away yourself.
RECENT READ
I read the recent release of #DRCL Midnight Children Vol 3 by Shin-ichi Sakamoto and reread the first two volumes.
This is a strange and surreal take on Dracula. His ship crashes off the coast of Whitby England near a children’s boarding school. Here’s the official blurb for the first book.
In this beautiful, evocative, and often surreal retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula, a fearsome enemy arrives from the east, bringing with it horrors the likes of which have never been seen in the British Empire. Standing opposed are Wilhelmina “Mina” Murray and her stalwart companions, united in a cabal that eclipses gender, nationality, and station until the day that they can achieve victory.
As Mina struggles to find her place as Whitby School’s first and only female student, a devilish horror is unleashed upon the academy and its unsuspecting students: Count Dracula. However, when this unspeakable evil lays claim to her beloved Lucy Westenra, Mina stands ready to join forces with her fellow students and fight against it with everything she has.
This story has taken some very unique twists with the story that shocked me, especially in the latest volume. Volume 4 comes out in March 25, 2025.
RECENT WATCH
I watched the classic version of Pet Sematary this month with Roy as my trusty companion. He sat on my lap and watched it with me. So sweet. I gave the movie an A- for excellent use of child actors, set design and good story. I laughed out loud when the kid bit the dude (which was supposed to be horrific). Had a fun time.
QUERY UPDATE
My requested “revise and resubmit” is coming along well for my middle grade horror novel “Seeds of Doubt.” I believe I’ve met their notes with the new beginning chapters to show the world more before the monster shows up. I had a blast writing the telling stories around a s’mores pit scene. It was an excellent way to illustrate character for the MC and his friends. I hope to resubmit the first 50 pages to the agent this Sunday. Just waiting on the last of my beta reader feedback.
Well, that’s about it for this newsletter. Thanks for checking it out! Talk to you in November where I will reveal what project I’m working on next.
